n-Heptane GC is a clear and colorless liquid with a subtle, petroleum-like odor characteristic of alkanes. The molecular formula for n-Heptane is C7H16. Some alternative names for it are Heptan, Dipropylmethane, Heptyl hydride, Dipropyl methane, Gettysolve-C, Skellysolve C, Heptene, and n-Heptan. In contrast to regular heptane, n-Heptane GC is devoid of other isomers and is composed of a straight-chain alkane containing seven carbon atoms. This substance is insoluble in water and is frequently employed in analytical applications and research facilities.
